History

In 1927 Harry Goldberg loaded his horse-drawn carriage and traveled the streets of Philadelphia to deliver his farm-fresh milk to local residents. Before long, Harry expanded his business to include delivery of other fresh dairy products, such as sour cream and cottage cheese, and so began Penn Maid’s long standing relationship with consumers in the Philadelphia area. Harry’s philosophy was a simple one—to make and deliver the freshest, highest quality dairy products to consumers. This simple philosophy is still the cornerstone from which Penn Maid continues to operate.

As Harry's business grew, his base of operations changed from his home to a manufacturing operation based out of two row homes in South Philly. Business continued there until the mid 1970s when the entire plant was moved to the far Northeast section of Philadelphia. Today, as part of HP Hood LLC, one of the largest branded dairy operators in the United States, Penn Maid is proud to still be serving families of the Delaware Valley.
